How did you get involved in STEM?
I got involved in STEM from an early age. In elementary school, I loved competing in math competitions. Then, I discovered other fields in STEM in middle school and through high school. I joined my school's CyberPatriot team and learned about programming and app development. Additionally, I am interning at a local university to learn more about cybersecurity and IT. Through these experiences, I noticed the lack of diversity in these fields. I started a Women in STEM club at my school to teach more girls about STEM, in which we offer mentoring, hold workshops, advocate for bills supporting more diversity, as well as partner with other organizations to expand our impact.
Why did you join Reinvented Magazine?
I joined Reinvented Magazine because I love the mission and how the magazine empowers young girls. Growing up, I didn't have a lot of exposure to women in STEM, and Reinvented gives girls the opportunity to be inspired and learn about these amazing role models. I look forward to working hard towards growing Reinvented and impacting so many more girls!
Who is your favorite female STEM role model?
I look up to my mentors which have guided me throughout my STEM career. Their advice always leaves me inspired and motivated to work harder and make changes. Having someone to discuss my questions with is really important to me, and they have become my role models.
Do you have any hobbies outside of Reinvented?
One of my favorite hobbies is dancing Kathak. I've been dancing for over 11 years and teach younger girls as well. I am also very interested in business and entrepreneurship and co-founded a start-up last year. In my free time, I love hanging out with my friends, volunteering, spending time outside, and traveling to new places. In quarantine, I've really enjoyed cooking, reading, and spending time with my family!
What is your favorite quote?
"Never forget why you started" and “Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.” by Robert Louis Stevenson are my two favorite quotes. They never fail to motivate me when I'm feeling burnt out or when I'm discouraged. These quotes inspire me to work towards my goals, and learn from failure, instead of giving up.
